Over the weekend Major League Lacrosse had its second game at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida. Last year the MLL All-Star Game was held at FAU Stadium as well. The All-Star game had much success last year with a crowd of 4,841 people and gaining consideration for a spot as an expansion team. This year was another test for Florida in their attempt to get an MLL team. It was attended by 4,464 people. With an average MLL game attendance of 4,800 both of these games showed that the people of South Florida want their own MLL team.
If there is going to be an expansion team in Florida it is clear that they’ll play at FAU stadium. FAU stadium is the perfect spot for an MLL team because of its size and location. It can hold a crowd of 30,000 people, but for the two test game only one side was opened and it worked very well with people having the option to watch from their seats or hang out near the concessions. The location of the stadium is in the center of South Florida Lacrosse. Boca Raton is right in the middle of the majority of the cities in the South Florida Youth Lacrosse League which allows teams from the north and south to easily get to the games.
The test game showed that there really is an interest in Florida for a MLL team. With very strong attendance numbers from each game there is no reason not to believe that a MLL team should come to Florida. Lacrosse is growing in Florida more than ever so now is the time to give them an expansion team.
